Steering Committee Meeting

On Tuesday, March 10, the ASEAN IVO Steering Committee (SC) meeting was held at the Jakarta Campus of Telkom University in Indonesia, chaired by Vice President Yano, with Co-Chairs Dr. Ashwin Sasongko Sastrosubroto and Ms. Woro Indah Widiastuti (SC members from Indonesia).

Following a welcome address by Dr. Angga Rusdinar, Vice Rector of Telkom University, the Steering Committee (SC) members deliberated on the projects to be selected for ASEAN IVO in the 2026 fiscal year. A total of 42 proposals were received from the 10 ASEAN countries across six themes—ICT for Food, ICT for Environmental Protection and Disaster Prevention, Safe and Sustainable Society, ICT for Health and Welfare, ICT for Inclusive Digital Services and Governance, and ICT-related Technologies and Applications—and the SC members conducted preliminary scoring and evaluations.

The committee exchanged views on the Secretariat's selection proposals, which were ranked by total score. Ultimately, five projects were formally selected: the top four proposals overall, plus the highest-ranked proposal from the group representing Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar (specifically, the Cambodian proposal ranked sixth). This decision followed interviews conducted by the Secretariat with the respective project leaders.

Additionally, it was decided that the ASEAN IVO Forum for the 2026 fiscal year would be held in Malaysia.

During the session for presenting ICT R&D policies and trends in the host country countries, Dr. Irfan Darmawan from Telkom University delivered a lecture titled "ICT for Environment Protection and Disaster Prevention," in which he outlined the current situation regarding natural disasters—and the countermeasures being taken—in Indonesia and the ASEAN region.

This meeting was also the last meeting for Ms. Woro Indah Widiastuti and the Chairman of the committee, NICT Vice President YANO Hiroyuki. Ms. Woro Indah Widiastuti had sat on the committee since the founding of ASEAN IVO and we are very greatful for her contributions over her 10 plus years on the committee. She has been succeeded by Dr. Budi Prawara, Chairman of the Research Organization for Electronics and Informatics, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Vice President Yano was leaving his position as vice president at NICT and is to be succeeded by Vice President MORIAI Shiho.

Evaluations of the three reports were conducted by evaluation committee members—Vice Presidents Yasui, Yano, and Akutsu, along with Dr. Boediastoeti Ontowirjo from Indonesia's BRIN—and the results, together with comments from Steering Committee members, are scheduled to be provided as feedback to the project leaders.
