Steering Committee Meeting, March 2025
On Friday, March 14, the ASEAN IVO Steering Committee (SC) meeting (chaired by Executive Vice President Yano, co-chaired by Prof. Alejandro Ballado and Dr. Franz A. de Leon) was held at Mapua University in Manila, the Philippines.
In his opening remarks, President Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo introduced Mapua University's 100th anniversary this year and offered his congratulations on ASEAN IVO's 10th anniversary.
At the meeting, 17 SC members discussed the evaluation and selection of 26 project proposals. The 26 proposals were divided into five themes: "ICT for Food," "ICT for Environmental Protection and Disaster Prevention," "Creating a Safe and Sustainable Society," "ICT for Health and Welfare," and "ICT-Related Technologies and Applications." The SC members exchanged opinions based on their preliminary evaluation scores and rankings. From an administrative perspective, the secretariat will now conduct interviews with project leaders. After interviewing the top six, five projects were selected. Furthermore, at the SC meeting held annually in March, SC members present their respective countries' ICT research and development policies and trends. This time, Dr. Franz A. de Leons, Director of DOST-ASTI, gave a presentation for the Philippines.
On the afternoon of the 14th, the SC members visited the Advanced Science and Technology Institute, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ASTI). Dr. Leah Buendia, Undersecretary for Research and Development, opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of ICT research and development as well as international collaboration, and expressed her gratitude and praise for the activities of ASEAN IVO. During the tour, the members were introduced to DOST-ASTI's five research areas (SAR, AI search systems, education systems, etc.), and then toured the prototyping and development labs and the Electronic Product Development Center (EPDC).
