ASEAN IVO held its 10th Anniversary at the Okura Prestige Bangkok on Thursday, September 25th. Since its launch in 2015 under the leadership of NICT, NICT has served as the secretariat, providing a platform for ICT research and development, including hosting forums and promoting multilateral collaborative projects. To mark the 10th anniversary, a commemorative event was held to summarize the organization's efforts to date and further strengthen collaboration.

The meeting was attended by NICT senior management, such as President Tokuda Hideyuki; Technical Cooperation Specialist for the International Development Division, International Strategy Bureau Ishida Eishi from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications; Program Officer for the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Yasuhito Morimoto; Second Secretary for the Mission of Japan to ASEAN; Dr. Boediastoeti Ontowirjo, Chair of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI); and rectors and directors from the ASEAN IVO Steering Committee (see the attached document for the program and participants).

The event opened with a series of congratulatory remarks, which was followed by the introduction of international collaboration programs run by ASEAN COSTI and APT and teh secretariat introduce ASEAN IVO Phase II. Proceedings then moved to a panel discussion, featuring five panel members, one from NICT and four representatives for the ASEAN community from the ASEAN IVO steering committee. The participants were Dr. Pannirselvam Kanagaratnam, Chief Technology Officer of the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS), Dr. Mie Mie Khin, President of the University of Computer Studies, Yangon (UCSY), Myanmar, Dr. Sumei Sun, Director of the Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R), Singapore, and Dr. Chai Wutiwiwatchai, Director of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Thailand. Executive Director Yano from NICT served as the moderator. The panel focused on future ICT R&D collaboration between ASEAN countries and Japan.

In the afternoon, five former ASEAN IVO project leaders reported on post-completion activities of frinished projects. There was also a presentation about 10 years of  ASEAN IVO activities.

After the conclusion of the event, a steering committee meeting was hosted to give the committee an oportunity to give feedback on the event and the running of ASEAN IVO over the course of the last 10 years.
