- Promoting international joint research through collaboration with the NSF –
December 7, 2017
We would like to announce that a joint call with the NSF for research proposals is open until January 9, 2018, based on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States of America, in which NICT will provide funding to research institutions on the Japanese side for Japan-US joint R&D projects related to neuroscience technology.
These joint projects will be under the international (US, Germany, France, Israel and Japan) joint research framework CRCNS*.
Under this call, proposals must include participation of a US research institution in order to be considered. Institutions from Israel can also be included in the project team. (However, for this call, Germany and France cannot be included in the project team.)
This call is aimed at promotion of efficient R&D or enhancing R&D capability in the field of brain ICT through international joint research efforts centered around JP-US collaboration.
*CRCNS: Collaborative Research in Computational Neuroscience.
A framework set up in the United States by the NSF and NIH (National Institutes of Health) and jointly run between the US, Germany, France, Israel and Japan.

IMPORTANT POINTS
This is a joint call with the NSF, and is only applicable for joint projects with United States research institutions. Therefore, if you wish to apply, your application must include at least 1 US institution as one of the collaborators.
For these joint projects, the Japanese and US institutions apply in parallel. The Japanese side applies to NICT, while the American side applies to NSF.
If the application includes a participant institution from Israel, that institution must at the same time apply to BSF (United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation).
