The sixth ASEAN IVO Steering Committee meeting was held on Tuesday 6th of March, 2018 at the NSTDA building in Bangkok, Thailand. (Chair: Dr. Fumihiko Tomita, Vice-President, NICT. Co-Chair: Dr. Sarun Sumriddetchkajorn, Executive Director, NECTEC)
The main topic of the meeting was selection of 2018 ASEAN IVO joint projects. There was a total of 33 proposals received under the 4 topics of: Smart Agriculture / Aquaculture / Farming, Smart Tourism, Smart Environment Protection, and Information Reliability for Smart Society.
Prior to the meeting, these proposals were evaluated by the 17 Steering Committee members. The top 6 projects in a ranking from the aggregate scores were selected. These projects selected have strong potential for international deployment of results or collaboration towards that purpose. One project (No. 3 of the table) will be supported by NEC Solution Innovators, Ltd. This is the first ASEAN IVO project supported by a private company.
As this meeting marks the third year since the launch of ASEAN IVO, there were also discussions on future direction for activities, project promotion and evaluation. Discussion points included considering seeking matching funds, follow-up and result dissemination for projects nearing completion, communication with government of each member for supporting and promoting each project, work towards aligning priorities with the ASEAN ICT Master Plan, and changes for project duration limits in future calls. These discussions will form a basis for future policy direction and for actions towards dialogue and cooperation with relevant ASEAN administrative bodies.
As well as the above discussions, in this meeting a logo and publicity pamphlet for ASEAN IVO were approved by the Steering Committee.
It was also decided that ASEAN IVO Forum 2018 will be held in Indonesia on November 27-28. Telkom University will function as local host for this event.
