International Cooperation with Hungary

National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT, President: Dr. Hideo MIYAHARA) and Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on international cooperation at Japanese ambassador’s residence in Hungary on April 16, 2012. This is an extension of MOU regarding comprehensive research cooperation between ＮＩＣＴ and BME after first MOU signing four years ago. Both organizations will promote collaborative projects and cooperate together in all of common interests such as photonic network and speech translation.

This signing ceremony was held in the Japanese ambassador’s residence by Mr. Tetsuo ITO, Ambassador of Japan to Hungary for his courtesy. Mr. Szabolcs TAKACS Director General, Department of Asia-Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary joined this ceremony and gave congratulations to NICT and BME. Mr. Laszlo DVORSZKI, Director of International Affairs, BME and Dr. Hiroshi KUMAGAI, Vice President, NICT signed the MOU after the speech with respect to the relationship between NICT and BME by Dr. Gabor MAGYAR, Vise-head of Department, BME TMIT.

NICT delegation made a visit of courtesy to the rector of BME, Mr. Gabor PECELI, before MOU signing ceremony. Both organizations mutually recognized cooperation in photonic network, and agreed to broaden the cooperation, e.g. speech translation technology.

A joint workshop was held in BME campus, Dr. Tamas HENK, Head of Department, BME TMIT, and Dr. Hiroshi KUMAGAI, Vice President of NICT gave the participants introductions on R&D of BME and NICT respectively, and two sessions, photonic network session chaired by Dr. Naoya WADA, NICT and Dr. Dr. Tibor CINKLER and speech translation session chaired by Dr. Eiichiro SUMIDA, NICT and Dr. Geza NEMETH, BME were parallel carried out.
