As Japan’s sole public research agency specializing in the field of Information and Communications, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) promotes the research and development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) from basic to applied research with an integrated perspective. At the same time, NICT aims to collaborate with entities including universities, industrial sectors, local governments, domestic and overseas research agencies, to widely disseminate the outcome of our research and development to society, and to create innovation. NICT publicly seeks competent individuals who are willing to play active roles in ICT research and development for the future from a global standpoint and boldly challenge various tasks.

  Job Titles

Permanent Researcher
NICT is seeking competent and highly motivated individuals who promote the research and development with medium- to long-term perspective from strategic point of view in independent-minded stance with high-level expertise of the relevant field of research.Permanent Researchers can be also engaged in strategic planning affairs such as research strategy planning, the management of the institute and so forth.

Permanent Technical Researcher
NICT is seeking competent individuals who realize various technologies required to promote the world's most advanced research and development with medium- to long-term perspective with specialized knowledge or skills.Permanent Technical Researchers can be also engaged in strategic planning affairs such as strategic planning of technologies, the management of the institute and so forth.

Tenure Track Researcher
NICT is looking for competent and highly motivated researchers who are willing to develop advanced research area, and to tackle to set and promote their own challenges proactively and voluntarily.When you are hired, you are supposed to be assigned to adequate existing research area. You have to draw up your research tasks in advance, which should be achieved within your term of five years, and to conduct your research.

 

  Number of Positions Available

A total of around ten people will be accepted, either as permanent staff (permanent researchers or permanent technical researchers) or tenure track researcher.

・ Hokuriku StarBED Technology Center (Noumi, Ishikawa Prefecture)

  Qualifications

◎ Application requirements in common

 In principle, those who can start working from the first day of April 2020 are eligible to apply. 

  Applicants of any nationality are eligible to apply (interviews will be conducted either in Japanese or English).

 

◎ Permanent Researcher

 Applicants must hold a PhD or master's degree, or be scheduled to receive a PhD or master’s degree before April 1, 2020.

 
◎ Permanent technical researcher

 Those who have learned knowledge and skills which are capable of contributing to the research and development of ICT are eligible to apply. 

 Applicants of any educational background are eligible to apply.

 
◎ Tenure track researcher
 Tenure track researcher positions are intended for young researchers who have acquired a PhD ten or less years ago.

  Notes regarding Employment Conditions

Permanent researcher, Permanent technical researcher  

1. You may have an opportunity to be engaged in non-research tasks (e.g. research management tasks and research support tasks) at NICT.

2. You may be sent on loan to a governmental agency, public service corporation, or private corporation for a fixed period of time.

3. You may be transferred to one of the NICT offices in Japan or abroad.


◎ Tenure Track Researcher
 

1.When you are hired, your roles in the institute including your research themes are supposed to be fixed through the interview for you as well as through adjustments by taking into account major research themes conducted at the division to which you are assigned.

2.You can take an examination to become a permanent researcher, whose employment period is not prescribed, after progress evaluation by the institute’s board of directors during your employment period.
